His first role in an international film was in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire (2008), for which he shared the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. In recent years, Kapoor has appeared in a range of films. In 2024, he played Rakesh Jaisingh (Rocky) in the action drama Fighter, J Paul in the action thriller Savi, and served as narrator for the comedy thriller Blackout. He also produced the comedy Crew (2024). In 2023, he played Balbir Singh in the action crime drama Animal, Professor Shekhar Sinha in the comedy drama Thank You For Coming, and produced the latter. In 2022, he portrayed Inspector Surekha Singh in the western thriller Thar and produced the film, and played Bheem Saini in the comedy drama JugJugg Jeeyo. In 2020, he appeared as Anjaney Agashe in the romantic action thriller Malang and as himself in the comedy action drama AK vs AK. In 2019, he played Balbir Chaudhary in the romantic drama Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga, Avinash Patel in the comedy adventure Total Dhamaal, and Wifi Bhai in the comedy action Pagalpanti, with a guest appearance as himself in The Zoya Factor. In 2018, he starred as Prashant Kumar Sharma "Fanney Khan" in the musical comedy drama Fanney Khan and produced it, produced the comedy drama Veere Di Wedding, and played Shamsher Singh in the action thriller Race 3. In 2017, he played Kartar Singh in the comedy drama Mubarakan, and in 2015, he appeared as Kamal Mehra in the drama Dil Dhadakne Do and as Sagar 'Majnu' Pandey in the action comedy Welcome Back.
