Amitabh Bachchan's run through the 1970s and 1980s was so dominant that French director François Truffaut called him a "one-man industry", and he picked up the nicknames "the Angry Young Man", Shahenshah of Bollywood, Sadi ke Mahanayak and Big B along the way. He played Deepak Sehgal in the 2016 thriller Pink, Pandit Omkarnath Dhar in Wazir and John Biswas in Te3n, both also 2016, and turned up as himself in a special appearance in Ki & Ka that year. In 2017 he was Subhash Nagre in Sarkar 3 and voiced the narrator in The Ghazi Attack. The 2018 slate brought Dattatraya Vakharia in 102 Not Out, Khudabaksh Azaad in Thugs of Hindostan, a self appearance in Pad Man and a cameo as himself in Helicopter Eela. He played Badal Gupta in the 2019 crime thriller Badla, then Chunnan "Mirza" Nawab in Gulabo Sitabo and appeared in the cast of Ghoomketu, both 2020. In 2021 he was Lateef Zaidi in Chehre. The year 2022 was busy: Vijay Borade in Jhund, Amit Shrivastava in Uunchai, Narayan Vedant in Runway 34, Harish Bhalla in Goodbye, the Guru in Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva and himself in Chup. He followed with Maharishi Dalapathi in Ganapath and a commentator role in Ghoomer in 2023, then Justice Dr. Sathyadev Bramhadutt Pandey in Vettaiyan and Ashwatthama in Kalki 2898-AD in 2024.
