Thaai Kizhavi story (no spoilers)
In Thaai Kizhavi, Radhika Sarathkumar plays Pavunuthaayi, an elderly moneylender from a village near Madurai whose fearsome reputation keeps the locals in line. When she falls seriously ill, her estranged sons and extended family reunite after years apart, returning to the household with their own agendas. As tensions rise inside the house, hidden motives and long-simmering conflicts surface, and expectations over her wealth turn her uncertain condition into the centre of a chaotic family drama. The film blends comedy and drama as the family's jostling for position plays out under one roof, with the question of Pavunuthaayi's health hanging over every argument and calculation. Directed by Sivakumar Murugesan, the Tamil-language film runs 144 minutes and carries a U certificate, with music by Nivas Prasanna.

Our verdict
Thaai Kizhavi is a grounded family comedy-drama that leans on Radhika Sarathkumar's presence and a busy ensemble to explore what happens when a feared matriarch falls ill. The Madurai-village setting and the mix of humour and resentment give it a specific flavour, though the 144-minute runtime asks for patience. It is a solid pick if you like watching family dynamics unravel over money and old wounds.
