Soorarai Pottru story (no spoilers)
Nedumaaran Rajangam, known as Maara, is a man with an unlikely dream: he wants the common man to fly. In a country where air travel is dominated by a few powerful players, Maara sets out to build his own airline. That puts him on a collision course with Paresh Goswami, a wealthy and well-connected industry titan who sees Maara's ambition as a threat. Backed by his wife Sundari 'Bommi' and a small circle of supporters, Maara takes on one of the world's most capital-intensive industries. The film mixes high-stakes drama with bursts of action as Maara faces enemies determined to keep him grounded. At its heart, Soorarai Pottru is an underdog story about persistence, family and the cost of chasing a dream that others think is impossible.
Should you watch Soorarai Pottru?
Watch it for
- Suriya plays Nedumaaran 'Maara' Rajangam, a role that anchors the film's mix of stubborn optimism and confrontation.
- Director Sudha Kongara Prasad builds the conflict around Maara's clash with Paresh Goswami, played by Paresh Rawal, giving the drama a sharp personal edge.
- The film runs 149 minutes and blends Drama and Action, so the story moves between emotional beats and confrontations.
- G. V. Prakash Kumar's music backs a cast that includes Aparna Balamurali as Bommi and Mohan Babu as M. Bhaktavatsalam Naidu.
Skip it if
- You want a light, fast-paced watch; the 149-minute runtime spends a lot of time on Maara's uphill battle.
- You prefer films without a strong corporate-vs-underdog conflict, since the story is built on Maara taking on the airline industry.

Our verdict
Soorarai Pottru is a solid underdog drama that gives Suriya a role with real grit and heart. The clash between Maara and Paresh Goswami keeps the 149 minutes moving, even if the film takes its time getting there. It is a grounded, earnest watch rather than a flashy spectacle.
