Madharaasi story (no spoilers)
Madharaasi is a Tamil action-romance-thriller directed by A. R. Murugadoss, releasing in theatres on 4 September 2025. The story follows Raghu Ram (Sivakarthikeyan), a man living with a psychological disorder who is trying to move past trauma. His life becomes entangled with Malathi (Rukmini Vasanth), and he eventually faces off against his nemesis, Virat (Vidyut Jammwal). The film is built around themes of resilience and redemption, with a fast-paced action approach and romantic elements woven in. At 168 minutes, it gives its plot and confrontations room to breathe. The tone is tense and driven, balancing personal struggle with high-stakes conflict. The supporting cast includes Biju Menon as Premnath "Prem", Vikranth as Sandeep Premnath, Shabeer Kallarakkal as Chirag, Thalaivasal Vijay as Dr. Kannan and Siddhartha Shankar as PC2. Anirudh Ravichander provides the music. The film carries a U/A 16+ certificate in India.
Should you watch Madharaasi?
Watch it for
- Sivakarthikeyan plays Raghu Ram, a character dealing with a psychological disorder, which gives the action a personal stake beyond the fights.

- Director A. R. Murugadoss and composer Anirudh Ravichander team up for a Tamil action-romance-thriller that runs 168 minutes.
- The film mixes action, romance and thriller elements around themes of resilience and redemption, with Rukmini Vasanth as Malathi in the romantic thread.
Skip it if
- You prefer shorter films; at 168 minutes, Madharaasi asks for a long sitting.

- You avoid U/A 16+ certified films, which this is in India.

Parental guide: is Madharaasi family friendly?
This is a general guide based on the action-thriller genre and the U/A 16+ certificate; the film is not aimed at young children. This is a general guide based on genre and certification.
Our verdict
Madharaasi gives Sivakarthikeyan a role with a psychological disorder to play against Vidyut Jammwal's Virat, and A. R. Murugadoss keeps the action-romance-thriller mix moving over 168 minutes. The U/A 16+ certificate and the trauma-driven premise mean it is not a light family watch. If you like Tamil action with a personal conflict at its centre, this one is built for that.
