Korean Kanakaraju story (no spoilers)
Kanakaraju, played by Varun Tej, finds himself possessed by a Korean spirit and has to adjust to a supernatural identity he never asked for. His priority becomes protecting his family while he works out what the spirit wants. That leads him to the spirit's murder, which he sets out to solve. Chaitra, played by Ritika Nayak, is part of the world around him, and Chenga Reddy (Sunil Varma), Kisttappa (Satya) and Diwakar (VTV Ganesh) round out the supporting cast. Directed by Merlapaka Gandhi, the film mixes comedy, horror and action across a 165-minute runtime, with S. Thaman handling the music. It was released in Telugu and Korean in theatres on 6 August 2026, carries a U/A 16+ certificate in India, and arrives on Netflix in India on 4 September 2026.
Should you watch Korean Kanakaraju?
Watch it for
- Merlapaka Gandhi directs a genre blend that puts comedy, horror and action in the same 165-minute film.
- Varun Tej plays Kanakaraju, a man possessed by a Korean spirit, with Ritika Nayak as Chaitra and Sunil Varma as Chenga Reddy in support.
- S. Thaman composes the music for a story that moves between a family-protection setup and a murder mystery.
- The film was released in both Telugu and Korean, and it is streaming on Netflix in India from 4 September 2026.
Skip it if
- You want a straight horror film without the comedy and action mix that Merlapaka Gandhi is going for here.
- A 165-minute runtime feels long to you for a possession story built around one character's supernatural identity.
- You prefer to avoid U/A 16+ content, since the certificate signals material aimed at older viewers.

Our verdict
Korean Kanakaraju gives Varun Tej a dual-layered role as a man sharing his body with a Korean spirit, and Merlapaka Gandhi builds the film around comedy, horror and action rather than one straight tone. The 165-minute runtime and U/A 16+ certificate mean it is not a casual family watch, but the Netflix arrival on 4 September 2026 makes it easy to judge for yourself at home.
