Jabariya Jodi story (no spoilers)
Set in Bihar's Madhopur, Jabariya Jodi follows Abhay Singh, who runs a syndicate that kidnaps greedy grooms demanding dowry and forcefully marries them off to the bride's family in what he calls a 'surprise party'. His operation is well-oiled until his childhood sweetheart Babli re-enters his life. Babli's return forces Abhay to confront a choice between his feelings for her and the ambitions he has built around the kidnapping racket. The film blends drama and romance as Abhay navigates the messy intersection of love and his unconventional livelihood, with the dowry-driven chaos of Madhopur shaping both the comedy and the conflict. The tone mixes lighthearted moments from the syndicate's antics with the emotional pull of Abhay and Babli's rekindled connection, all while keeping the focus on whether Abhay can reconcile his past with his present.

Our verdict
Jabariya Jodi takes a real social issue and wraps it in a romantic drama with a twist, though the 144-minute runtime may test patience. The pairing of Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra brings warmth to the central love story, while the supporting cast adds flavour to the Madhopur setting. It is a decent one-time watch if you like your romance with a side of small-town grit.
