Bombay Boys story (no spoilers)

Krishna 'Kris' Sahani leaves New York for his homeland to act in a movie. Ricardo Fernandes travels from Australia to Bombay to find his missing brother, Roger. Zeres Mistry comes from London to find his true love. The three NRIs meet in a taxi to Colaba and decide to stick together. They rent an apartment from Pesi Shroff, a gay landlord who openly and lovingly eyes a visibly uncomfortable Zeres. Kris's acting dream sours when filmmaker Don Mastana casts him in a movie slated to be the worst in Bollywood history. Ricardo gets no help from local police, who make clear they have better things to do than look for his missing brother. The hapless trio soon realise their hopes and dreams are turning to hopelessness and nightmares from which there is no escape. The film is a drama-comedy about NRI illusions colliding with Bombay reality.

Our verdict

Bombay Boys is a 1998 Hindi-English drama-comedy that follows three NRIs whose Bombay dreams unravel in a shared apartment and a doomed film shoot. Kaizad Gustad directs a cast led by Naveen Andrews, Rahul Bose and Roshan Seth through a brisk 105-minute story. It is an honest, slightly dark take on the city's promise versus its reality.
