Shahid Kapoor made his acting debut in 2003 with the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk, playing a leading role. The film was a sleeper hit, and Kapoor won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. In 2007, he starred in Imtiaz Ali's romantic comedy Jab We Met, portraying a troubled businessman, and earned a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. Two years later, he played twin brothers in Vishal Bhardwaj's caper thriller Kaminey (2009), which brought him another Filmfare Best Actor nomination. Kapoor's career has seen a mix of romantic roles and later action and thriller parts. In 2015, he appeared in the comedy Shaandaar as Jagjinder Joginder and was a talent judge on the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Reloaded. The following year, he played Tommy Singh in the crime drama Udta Punjab (2016). In 2017, he starred as Nawab Malik in the war drama Rangoon. He had two releases in 2018: as Maharaja Ratan Singh in the historical drama Padmaavat and as Sushil Kumar "SK" Pant in the comedy-drama Batti Gul Meter Chalu. In 2019, he played the title role in the romantic drama Kabir Singh. He followed with Jersey (2022) as Arjun Talwar, Bloody Daddy (2023) as Sumair Azad, and Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (2024) as Aryan Agnihotri. His upcoming films include Deva (2025) as Dev Ambre, Cocktail 2 (2026) as Kunal, and O'Romeo (2026) as Ustara.
