Nivin Pauly began his acting career in 2009 with a role in Vineeth Sreenivasan's directorial debut, Malarvaadi Arts Club. He gained recognition for his performance in the 2012 romantic film Thattathin Marayathu. In 2013, he starred in the bilingual black-comedy thriller Neram, for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. The year 2014 was significant for Pauly, with roles in the sports drama 1983, the romantic-comedy Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, and the romantic-drama Bangalore Days, which earned him the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor. In 2015, he appeared in the comedy road-thriller Oru Vadakkan Selfie and the coming-of-age romantic drama Premam, which became one of the top 10 highest-grossing Malayalam films. He also won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his performances in Bangalore Days and 1983 in 2015. In 2016, he starred in the police drama Action Hero Biju, which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Malayalam, and the family drama Jacob's Kingdom of Heaven. He also appeared in the adventure-comedy Aanandam that year. In 2017, he acted in the political satire Sakhavu and produced the family comedy Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela under his production company, Pauly Jr. Pictures. The 2018 epic Kayamkulam Kochunni emerged as one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films. In 2019, he starred in the crime drama Moothon, for which he won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor - Special Mention in 2020, as well as the action-thriller Mikhael and the comedy Love Action Drama. He produced and acted in the 2021 comedy Kanakam Kaamini Kalaham, the first Malayalam movie to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar. In 2022, he starred in the drama Padavettu. More recently, he appeared in the 2024 drama Varshangalkku Shesham and is set to star in the 2025 comedy Sarvam Maya and the 2026 romance Bethlehem Kudumba Unit.
