Lokesh Kanagaraj began his directing career with a segment in the anthology film Aviyal (2016). He then directed Maanagaram (2017), a thriller that marked his first full-length feature. In 2019, he directed and wrote the screenplay for Kaithi, an action thriller that became part of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU). He followed this with Master (2021), for which he served as director and screenwriter. Vikram (2022) saw him as director and screenwriter, and it also became part of the LCU.
