Kajal Aggarwal made a brief screen appearance in the Hindi film Kyun! Ho Gaya Na... (2004) before her lead acting debut in Teja's Telugu romantic drama Lakshmi Kalyanam (2007). She then made her Tamil debut in Pazhani (2008). Her breakthrough came with her portrayal of Yuvarani Mitravinda and Indira in S. S. Rajamouli's fantasy action film Magadheera (2009), for which she received a Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu nomination. She followed this with roles in Darling (2010), Brindavanam (2010), Mr. Perfect (2011), Rohit Shetty's action film Singham (2011), Businessman (2012), and A. R. Murugadoss's action film Thuppakki (2012). In 2013, she appeared in Naayak, Neeraj Pandey's heist thriller Special 26, and Baadshah. Subsequent films included Govindudu Andarivadele (2014), Temper (2015), Khaidi No. 150 (2017), Nene Raju Nene Mantri (2017), Vivegam (2017), Mersal (2017), the psychological drama Awe! (2018), and the comedy film Comali (2019). In 2020, a wax statue of her was unveiled at Madame Tussauds Singapore. She later starred alongside Nandamuri Balakrishna in Anil Ravipudi's film Bhagavanth Kesari (2023) and played ACP Satyabhama IPS in the investigative crime thriller Satyabhama (2024).
