Dimple Kapadia made her acting debut in Raj Kapoor's teen romance Bobby (1973) at the age of 16. That same year, she married actor Rajesh Khanna and retired from acting. She returned to the film industry in 1984 after her separation from Khanna. One of her films from that period was the drama Saagar (1985). Both Bobby (1973) and Saagar (1985) won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. In the late 1980s and 1990s, she took on more serious roles in films such as Kaash (1987), Drishti (1990), Lekin... (1990), and Rudaali (1993). Her performance in Rudaali (1993) earned her a National Film Award for Best Actress and a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. She also received acclaim for supporting roles in Gardish (1993) and Krantiveer (1994), the latter of which garnered her a fourth Filmfare Award. In the 2000s, Kapadia appeared in films like Dil Chahta Hai (2001) and the American production Leela (2002). Later credits include leading roles in Hum Kaun Hai? (2004), Pyaar Mein Twist (2005), Phir Kabhi (2008), and Tum Milo Toh Sahi (2010), and supporting roles in Being Cyrus (2005), Luck by Chance (2009), Dabangg (2010), Cocktail (2012), and Finding Fanny (2014). More recently, she appeared in Angrezi Medium (2020) as Mrs. Kohli, in A Thursday (2022) as Prime Minister Maya Rajguru, and in Pathaan (2023) as Nandini. In 2024, she played Cookie Katoch in Murder Mubarak and Urmila Shukla in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya.
